Rare COBALT BLUE Glass Moon & Star Pedestal Cake Plate 9

This plate does not have a makers mark on it, so it leads me to believe it was made during the 1940's-1950's. Several companies made this pattern from 1880's to today. This is very similar to pieces made by L E Smith.

Smith started marking his pieces with an S during the 1960's. Prior to 1960 he did not mark his glassware. Smith never owned the molds for this pattern, they only had a lease on the molds and contracted with other companies to produce the pieces under the L.

There may be a small hairline crack under the plate, it does not detract from piece, (please see pictures # 6 and #7). Please view all the pictures as they are part of the description.

Some information on L E Smith and the Moon & Star Pattern. The pattern of Moon & Star was originally called PALACE in the 1880's and was made by Adams & Co..

The only color they made at that time was the clear glass. In the 1920's L. Smith started making this pattern in several colors, including Cobalt Blue. The following information is from the "Moon and Star Glass Club" and can be found on the internet.

There have been many companies that make the Moon and Star Pattern. Wright circa 1930's - 1960's Fenton Glass Co.

Credited with "Moon & Star Pattern" variations / Cresent Glass Co. There may be other manufacturers in this vast universe of ours also.
