A really sweet band of Turquoise Blue color as well. It has a slightly depressed center and is perfect for highlighting that special tasty treat you create to show and then serve. The piece stands 3.25" tall x 9" across at the widest. The depressed area is 5 in diam but you can easily use this for something larger. The base is 4.25 in diam and the bottom rim shows good wear to support its very old age.
It is marked simply with a red Circle mark for. Adolphe Hache & Pepin LeHalleur of Paris & Vierzon France.
Only 2 of the other pieces of the set are marked H & PL / V which is one of the marks used by. The Porcelain Manufacturing firm of Hache & Cie, and the other piece just like this one is one of only 2 pieces of this dinner service to carry that makers mark. This is the only piece with this red mark for. This firm was considered to be one of the two finest producers of French porcelain in that period. Only the Dinner Plates in this entire Service have the Paris Retailer Label on it. It also has the Paris France address on the label. 20 B Malesherbes, Paris, France. Which was probably from the late 1800's, was made for this Store that carried this beautiful line or had it made for a specific client. It wasn't cheap to do that back then so this is a remnant of that high end client base that the Parisian community catered to. There are also other serving pieces being listed currently... There may not be any mark at all on a particular piece or Lot, it is for your reference ONLY that the photos are included. A Little Background regarding Retailers Damon et Delente: Louis Damon was a Paris based glass decorator and retailer. Bought in Baccarat and Daum and Old Paris Procelain Mfg's blanks. In the Art Nouveau style. And added value through decoration.
He partnered up with his brother-in-law, Delente, who employed Auguste Heiligenstein, a now-famous artist who did much of their decoration. Damon died in 1947, the Paris business continued in operation. A bit of the history for the Alfred Hache & Cie. Mark, in use from 1889, some in green or Brown with "H & PL/V" or AH & Cie. The firm of Hache & Cie.
Was located in Vierzon on the Cher River and in the department of the same name. Successors to the firm of Petry & Ronsse (which itself could be traced back to the early days of the Restauration), the company was founded in 1845 by brothers-in-law Adolphe Hache and Leon Pepin-Lehalleur. The new industrialized manufacturing techniques introduced by Hache & Pepin-Lehalleur - coupled with the region's rich supplies of clay and firewood - established Vierzon as a major porcelain manufacturing center of France, which it would remain until the French economic crises of the 1970's.
Pepin-Lehalleur retired in 1872, succeeded in the firm by his sons, after which the firm was known as Hache & Lehalleur fils. Following Adolphe Hache's retirement in 1885, he was succeeded by his son and son-in-law as Alfred Hache, Jullien & Cie. Known from 1893 simply as A. These companies received numerous exhibition awards, including silver medals in Paris in 1858 and 1867, a prize medal in London in 1862, gold medals in Paris in 1867 and 1878, diplomas of honor in Vienna in 1872 and Paris in 1889. Adolphe Hache was awarded the Legion d'Honneur in 1886, and Alfred Hache served as the President of the Ceramics Jury in the Paris Exposition of 1900.
